,“More trees,more life.”,“种一棵大树,造一处美景。”,“One tree,one beauty in your eyes.”

March 12th marks China’s Arbor Day, rooted in the ancient wisdom of the Book of Rites: "In early spring, virtue lies in trees." Amid the gentle breezes of March, the school’s primary section launched a series of Arbor Day-themed activities.

1. The "Green Code" of Arbor Day

Arbor Day’s date is tied to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a pioneer of afforestation in China, as March 12th commemorates his passing. China’s tree-planting traditions trace back to the Western Zhou Dynasty with the custom of "planting willows during Qingming." Globally, over 50 countries celebrate their own Arbor Days: the U.S. has state-specific dates, Japan honors April 3rd as "Greenery Day," and India embraces tree-planting during July’s monsoon season. In China, Arbor Day symbolizes not just planting but also the enduring wisdom of "planting trees for future generations to enjoy the shade."

2. Silent Guardians of Nature

From dawn’s misty plane trees to dusk’s towering cedars, these green sentinels offer immense value: A single large tree provides oxygen for four people daily, while 20 square meters of trees absorb exhaust from a car driving 16 kilometers. Forests also protect soil and water—1 hectare of woodland stores 3,000 cubic meters more water than bare land. When children touch the rough bark of campus trees, they feel the pulse of our living planet.

3. Joyful Eco-Actions

During March’s fourth week, the campus buzzed with youthful energy. First graders became "Little Gardeners," tending to a mini planting area. With tiny shovels, they carefully nurtured seedlings, cheering, "My cabbage baby needs plenty of water!"

Older students (Grades 2-4), as "Eco-Ambassadors," crafted tree-themed slogans after learning about Arbor Day’s global significance. They pondered: "What if forests disappeared?" Answers ranged from "Birds would lose homes" to "Earth would crack like a dried apple." Their creative slogans, painted on recycled paper, declared: "Plant a tree, save a life.", "Every green leaf is Earth’s smile." ,"More trees, more life." “One tree, one beauty in your eyes.”and so on.

4. Many Ways to Protect Green

As the activity concluded, students gazed at their vibrant eco-slogans on the whiteboard. Through simple classroom discussions, sprouts of environmental awareness took root in young hearts. This embodies Arbor Day’s poetic essence: when tiny hands add new green to spring, hope grows eternally with each tree’s rings.
