Recently, the Grade 5 Department at HBBSS successfully held a parent salon on the theme of Focus on Education Cohesion and Student Characteristic Development. The purpose of this event was to deepen parents' understanding of the school's educational philosophy and discuss the successful transition and personalized growth path of students from elementary school to middle school.

The event kicked off in a warm atmosphere, and Ms. Chu, the head of G5, first shared the good news of the early application of Class of 2022 graduates, as well as the unique advantages of the AP course at SBBSS. Based on focusing on consolidating academics, HBBSS and SBBSS are more committed to cultivating personalized development to ensure that each student can receive accurate evaluation and customized guidance at different stages of growth. Based on the original winter vacation homework reduction and exemption policy, a new application policy has been launched to encourage students to carry out personalized development.

Student representative Kelly Yan Yuexin shared her experience bridging elementary and middle school. Kelly admitted that after entering middle school, she faced some changes and challenges, to cope with these changes and challenges, first of all, she took the initiative to adjust her learning methods and strategies, pay attention to the subject foundation, try to do as much preview and review as possible, keep thinking, and review the past. Taking the initiative to seize the time prompted her to do a good job of time management and leave more time for her specialty development to practice. But at the same time, when she practiced, she was very pleasantly surprised to find that the learning results were achievable and even a little effortless, which she had never experienced in elementary school. Of course, she also mentioned that this process is inseparable from the positive influence brought to her by the teacher and the class. Teachers encourage students to be holistic, so Kelly is glad she doesn't give up more extracurricular projects because of higher grades. With a good schedule, her grades in school have not been affected, but allowed her to pursue good study habits and rhythms, and even her grades have improved significantly, making her more balanced. Self-management is the best starting point for self-achievement in the future.

In the subject outlook session, Ms. Winnie, the head of the middle school English teaching and research, deeply analyzed the characteristics of the English curriculum for middle school bridging elementary schools. In the English classes at HBBSS, the close cooperation between Chinese and expat teachers is excellent. The Chinese teachers with strong professional backgrounds and expat teachers with average teaching of more than five years are highly integrated and deeply coordinated, and the curriculum design is closely coordinated to help improve students' English language and literature literacy so that students can thrive in a multicultural atmosphere. Based on a broad reading foundation, students begin to try to read extensively on any subject from the fifth grade, covering social sciences, humanities, economics, medicine, and other fields. This reflects the core concept of "learning in English" in the teaching of various disciplines. Through the English course at HBBSS, students have cultivated excellent English writing skills, and some of the works of G8 and G9 students have even reached the level that college students will be amazed when they see them. Chinese and expat teachers will either print out the students' excellent works in a book or organize them into a personal writing portfolio. Through these records, students can see that as they grow in grades, even if they write the same novel, their thinking focus will be completely different as seen in their growth and progress.

Ms. Pei, the head of mathematics teaching and research, shared the unique concept and practice of mathematics teaching at HBBSS Middle School. She first introduced the teaching arrangement of middle school mathematics to ensure that every student can get a balanced development in depth and breadth. This teaching arrangement not only broadens students' mathematical horizons but also cultivates their intercultural communication skills. In the context of the AI era, the middle school mathematics course at HBBSS keeps up with the pace of the times, and it makes full use of intelligent software to assist teaching, which not only improves teaching efficiency but also allows students to master the necessary skills in the AI era in mathematics learning. Ms. Pei shared how the student club used mathematical models to complete large-scale graphic puzzles with Rubik's cubes, and that in the integrated training model of HBBSS and SBBSS, students' mathematical literacy, teamwork ability, and problem-solving ability are constantly developing. Ms. Pei also emphasized the importance of infiltrating career education in the middle school mathematics curriculum. HBBSS pays attention to cultivating students' awareness of career planning in mathematics teaching and guides students to think about their career development direction by introducing the application of mathematics in various fields, to help them better plan their future path.

Director Li, the head of biology teaching at HBBSS, introduced the characteristics of the bilingual science course at HBBSS by taking the biology course as an example in the parent salon activity. Given the three major challenges faced by E-side biology: the challenge of content and depth, the challenge of having many proper nouns in English, and the challenge of benchmarking high-ability goals, Director Li introduced the measures and practical results of HBBSS to deal with the three major challenges and depicted a grand blueprint for biology education for parents. After years of practice, the biology course at HBBSS can achieve a good connection between middle and high school, and the penetration of career education in biology direction, consolidate students' academic reading ability, and cultivate students' solid experimental design, data statistical analysis, interdisciplinary ability to solve practical problems and teamwork ability. These initiatives not only improve students' scientific literacy but also lay a solid foundation for their future academic research and career development. At the same time, such measures have detailed arrangements in bilingual subjects such as physics and chemistry to help students achieve their goals.

This parent salon not only deepened parents' understanding of the educational philosophy of HBBSS but also provided them with a valuable opportunity to grow and progress together with their children. HBBSS will continue to uphold the philosophy of “Chinese identity, global perspective “, provide strong support and guarantee for the all-around development and personality growth of every student, and work with parents to create a new chapter in education.
