From deep dives into historical knowledge to ancient charm revitalized by AI, from intricate paper-cutting art to kites blending classical and modern aesthetics – a dialogue between tradition and innovation quietly unfolded on campus from March 24th to 27th. Students at Hangzhou Bay School brought the philosophy of "Chinese Roots, Global Vision" to life through four themed events.

Student Creativity: A Self-Driven Cultural Feast

At the start of the semester, the student council partnered with the Academic Department, Intangible Cultural Heritage Club, and other groups to design four pillars of activities – knowledge competitions, AI-powered speeches, intangible cultural heritage workshops, and lunar exploration projects – based on class-wide surveys. Students independently crafted competition rules, filmed instructional videos, and received guidance from humanities teachers, embodying the educational ethos of "student-led, teacher-supported" collaboration.

Cultural Roots: Knowledge Battles Ignite Minds

On Monday, the middle school campus was transformed into a cultural arena. Teams of 3-5 students competed in rapid-fire quizzes spanning historical events, technological milestones, and literary classics. Questions ranged from the ancient wisdom of Tiangong Kaiwu (The Exploitation of the Works of Nature) to the cutting-edge breakthroughs of China’s Chang’e lunar missions, sparking interdisciplinary brainstorming. Even after the bell rang, cheers were heard echoing through the halls.

Future Vision: Gen Z’s Fusion of Tech and Humanity

On Tuesday, ninth-grader Ricky delivered a flag-raising speech titled "AI as a Guardian of Heritage." Citing the digital restoration of Dunhuang murals through 3D modeling, he explained how technology transforms millennia-old art into immersive VR classrooms. Quoting The Future of Jobs Report, he declared, "67% of future roles demand both humanities and STEM skills. We must become AI-era natives who can tell China’s stories to the world!"

Timeless Craftsmanship : Workshops Bridge Eras

Wednesday saw Grades 5-6 students folding delicate lotus pedestals and 3D maple leaf paper art under the Club’s guidance. Meanwhile, Grades 7-9 reimagined traditional kites using material kits from the Echo Society, weaving modern designs into ancient craftsmanship. Paper art and kite-making – time-honored skills – bloomed anew under youthful fingertips.

Lunar Legacy: Decoding China’s Moon Quest

On Thursday, students unraveled "Three Codes of China’s Lunar Exploration" through group projects. Some reenacted myths like Chang’e fleeing to the moon and the Jade Rabbit grinding elixirs. Others analyzed the moon-phase calculations in the Shoushi Calendar (13th-century astronomical treatise), while tech-savvy teams showcased the latest lunar models and mission breakthroughs. Together, they decoded China’s celestial narrative – from myth to modern marvel.

Through this Cultural Week, Hangzhou Bay School students touched the innovative pulse of tradition – crafting kites with timeless artisan spirit and exploring lunar quests that bridge the past and future. It was a vivid embodiment of "Chinese Roots, Global Vision": anchoring identity in cultural DNA while embracing technological tides. As ancient wisdom and modern creativity converge in these young hands, we witness not just a reawakening of cultural pride, but a generation of global citizens ready to address humanity’s shared challenges with Chinese ingenuity.
