This October, our campus is coming alive with vibrant subject-based learning experiences. From biology projects where students step into the role of guardians of life, to history explorations that creatively bring the past into the present through a "Weibo Hot Search" lens, all the way to inspiring interdisciplinary projects in math and English—students are growing in exciting new ways. Through hands-on, inquiry-driven project-based learning, they're not only deepening their understanding but also building curiosity, empathy, and confidence across subjects.

Reviving classical Chinese poetry and prose via technology and creativity

We're excited to share how the "Technology + Creativity" approach is bringing classical poetry and prose to life in our Chinese classes. Chinese teachers motivate the students to move beyond traditional reading—encouraging them to explore poetry in joyful, collaborative ways. One of the most inspiring parts is the "AI-Powered Analysis of Classical Poetry and Prose," where students step into the role of "creative directors." With imagination and care, they turn their understanding of classical texts into thoughtful AI prompts, creating beautiful multimedia presentations. Some bring lyrical poems to life with animated videos and music, while others capture the peaceful spirit of landscape poetry through visual art. This creative process not only nurtures students' language skills and critical thinking but also connects Chinese learning with technology, music, and storytelling—helping ancient words become vivid, engaging, and meaningful in new ways. In the "Hand-drawn Self-study Texts" activity, students express the emotions and meanings of classical works through their own hand-drawn illustrations. With gentle brushstrokes and personal touches, they share their unique connections to the texts. These heartfelt creations help strengthen cultural appreciation while growing their confidence, creativity, and artistic sensitivity.

Learning with Purpose, Connecting with Heart

Students are discovering how much fun learning can be when math, language, and the world around them come together in meaningful ways. In math, they explore square roots and fractional exponents by noticing beautiful patterns—like the spiral of sunflower seeds or the harmony in the Mona Lisa’s face—and begin to see how ideas like the Fibonacci sequence and golden ratio show up all around us, from nature to art to buildings. These moments light up their curiosity and help them realize that math isn’t just about numbers—it’s a way of understanding the world. In English, students connect with older family members and community elders, listening to their life stories and sharing them through creative posters in English. As they talk about changes in transportation, education, and daily life, they grow their language skills while also honoring the experiences that shape their families and culture. By weaving math and English together, students learn to think deeply, express themselves with confidence, and see the world with fresh, thoughtful eyes.

Caring for Life’s Home Through Science

In the biology project on “Endangered and Invasive Species,” eighth graders embraced the meaningful role of “Biodiversity Guardians.” With care and curiosity, they explored the lives of endangered animals like the South China tiger, snow leopard, Chinese sturgeon, and yellow-breasted bunting, as well as the red-eared slider turtle—an invasive species with growing impact. From basic facts to current challenges, from why these species are at risk to how we can protect them, students dove deep into their research. Their thoughtful work not only showed a strong grasp of biodiversity issues but also revealed a heartfelt respect for nature and a genuine desire to protect our shared home, Earth.

Bringing the Past to Life with "Weibo Hot Search"

In this history project, students step into the shoes of "hot search editors," exploring important moments in modern Chinese history through the familiar world of social media. With creativity and care, they design lively trending topics and hashtags for key events and historical figures, turning complex stories into content that feels personal and meaningful. Through this engaging approach, they not only connect more deeply with the past but also develop a clearer, more heartfelt understanding of the social changes that shaped China.

This October, our students embraced project-based learning with curiosity and enthusiasm. Across biology labs, history workshops, math challenges, and English expression activities, they explored as learners and created as thinkers—asking questions, sharing ideas, and making connections that matter. These hands-on experiences helped them grow not only in knowledge but also in research skills, creativity, and a deeper sense of responsibility toward the world around them. It’s been a joyful journey of discovery, and we’re proud to see how each student has brought energy, care, and purpose to their learning.
