Building Defense Through Drills, Preparing Through Practice HBBSS Middle School Division Conducts an Emergency Fire Evacuation Drill

Every serious drill reaffirms our commitment to putting life above all else. To further strengthen campus safety education and effectively enhance the fire safety awareness and emergency self-rescue capabilities of all faculty and students, HBBSS Middle School Division organized an emergency fire evacuation drill on September 4.

As the saying goes, preparedness ensures success, while a lack of it leads to failure. Prior to the drill, the school established a dedicated fire safety evacuation working group and convened a special planning meeting to specify the division of responsibilities and firmly assign accountability. Meticulous arrangements were made for the evacuation routes, station duties, logistical support, and other key aspects to ensure that the drill proceeded in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner.

Before the drill officially began, homeroom teachers walk students through the key techniques and precautions for escaping a fire, including how to report a fire correctly, how to cover the mouth and nose with a wet towel, and how to move forward in a low crouch. The students listened attentively and took an active part in the interactive sessions; through Q&A and on-site demonstrations, they deepened their understanding of fire safety and were thus fully prepared both mentally and practically for the drill.

At 2:15 p.m., a shrill, urgent alarm rang out across the campus. All faculty and students responded immediately. Guided by their teachers, the students followed the predetermined evacuation routes crouching low, covering their mouths and noses, and keeping to the right side of the corridors and swiftly assembled on the playground. The evacuation marshals on each floor remained at their posts, closely monitoring the students and directing the flow of traffic to prevent crowding. The entire evacuation was tense but not chaotic, swift yet well-ordered. Within just a few minutes, all faculty and students had arrived safely at the designated assembly area, with no one left behind clear evidence of the remarkable effectiveness of the school's ongoing safety education. After the evacuation, the on-site commander announced the start of the hands-on training session on fire extinguisher use.

Safety responsibility is heavier than Mount Tai, and prevention is better than response. This emergency fire evacuation drill was both a vivid lesson in life safety and a comprehensive test of the school's emergency response capabilities. HBBSS will take this event as an opportunity to continue advancing the building of a safe campus, constantly exploring new channels and formats for safety education, so that safety awareness takes root in every mind and emergency skills become second nature to every teacher and student thereby building an impregnable safety barrier for the healthy growth of our children.
