On the September campus, the little first-graders carrying new schoolbags are bringing unexpected small surprises to teachers and parents every day. The special good-habit series activities launched by the first-grade team of Shanghai Jinshan Hangzhou Bay Bilingual School since the summer vacation, with gentle guidance running through the holiday and the new semester, accompany the children who have just stepped into the campus to unlock new skills step by step, and witness the quiet growth of every little kid in the atmosphere of home-school collaboration.

Smooth Transition Without Panic: Plant the Seeds of Good Habits in Summer Check-ins

To help children smoothly cross the adaptation gap from kindergarten to primary school, the first-grade teachers specially designed a layered and progressive home check-in plan for all new students before the summer vacation. The two-week life skill check-in in the first stage consists of small tasks extracted from children's daily scenarios: tying shoelaces by themselves, putting away clothes independently, remembering to drink water actively, and tidying up the desk after reading picture books. There are no rigid requirements, only a little guidance every day, allowing children to gradually reduce their dependence on parents in a relaxed home atmosphere and try to handle small things in life on their own.

The 21-day online check-in activity launched at the same time turned reading and sports into fixed small habits during the holiday. Teachers gave gentle reminders online, and parents recorded every little moment of their children in company: the pride when they finished telling a whole picture book for the first time, and the laughter spilled when they ran and jumped in the sun. All these were passed to the school teachers through the online check-in link, and a synchronized growth tacit understanding was formed between home and school very early.

After the two rounds of summer check-in activities were fully completed, the first-grade team specially prepared a ritual-filled online showcase session for the children — an all-English cloud sharing of check-in reflections. The kids started preparing earnestly at home a week in advance, practicing their sharing content over and over. Many parents accompanied their little ones to add cute subtitles and fun transitions to the recorded short videos; some children even specially matched small props that echoed the check-in theme, and designed many vivid little gestures during the sharing. Every video is full of ingenuity. This small progress of daring to express themselves generously is the most unexpected and precious harvest of the whole summer vacation.

Show Their Style on the "Playing Field": Full Sense of Achievement After Returning to School

The small skills that children have accumulated all summer got full display opportunities in the first skill competition after returning to school. At the scene of the clothes-folding and shoelace-tying competitions, there was no intense competitive pressure, only bursts of cheers and serious little faces: the young contestants quickly smoothed the corners of their clothes, folded them in half, and tied neat bows at the desk. Every child who finished the competition raised their smiling faces covered with sweat and received the warmest applause from their little friends off the stage.

At the subsequent award ceremony, all the children who persisted in the 21-day reading and sports check-in received their own "Good Habit Pioneer" certificates. The moment the children took the certificates with both hands and carefully tucked them into the innermost layer of their schoolbags, we knew that the word "persistence" had been planted in their little hearts in the most concrete way.

Continuous Effort in Campus Daily Life: Two-Way Growth Companionship Hidden in Small Stamps

After entering the regular campus study, in order to steadily extend the good habits developed during the holiday to the classroom, the first-grade teachers customized exclusive daily check-in sheets for the children in the class. Every item on the list comes from the teachers' careful observation of the children's campus state in the first two weeks of school: listening attentively in class, tidying up the desk quickly after class, and being careful when completing exercises. Every time they finish the daily small goal, the teacher will stamp an exclusive seal on the check-in sheet.

Extending from the guidance on campus to the continuation at home, the cultivation of good habits is never the unilateral effort of the school. The increasing number of small stamps on these check-in sheets and the increasingly skilled small skills in daily life are never for the purpose of completing tasks. It is the patient guidance of the school plus the gentle cooperation of the family. The two forces gently support these little kids who have just started their journey, so that they can take solid and reassuring steps in the first step of growth, and gradually grow into more independent and confident little figures.
